Meyer Logistik digs TControl
Meyer Logistik is investing approximately 20 million in new trucks, reefers and online vehicle temperature monitoring, until the end of 2011. In light of commercial enterprises increasing needs for whom Meyer operates the branch distribution.
Meyer Logistik is a major provider of trade and food store chains. The Hessian family-owned enterprise cargos for Rewe and Penny stores nationwide.
Seamless temperature pattern documentation
Aldi Süd, Lidl, Norma, Edeka Group and its discounter Netto are important customers in the branch distribution, as well. "Our customers want complete tracking and documentation of the cold chain," justifies managing partner Heinz Meyer this years particularly high investment in vehicles, reefer technology and telematics. By year end the Friedrichsdorfer will have purchased 150 solo vehicles (trucks without trailers), and 65 semitrailer trucks with extra powerful reefers and the telematics system TControl provided by idem. Utilizing the new reefer technology yields a substantially better cooling performance, said the company president. If reefer temperature falls below the set point, "an alarm message appears on our dispatchers central office screens," said Heinz Meyer. This rapid online technology will be implemented in all trucks.
When problems occur central office informs the driver and a step-by-step emergency plan comes into force. Sometimes its a as simple as the door not being closed completely or the reefer is not set correctly. Nearly a third of the retail outlets Meyer can supply in light traffic times at night.
On course for growth
In Germany, Meyer has 1,600 employees and over 1,000 trucks in use, annually renewing 100 to 200. With Logistics services the company made a total revenue of approximately 200 million in 2010.
Out of this, 130 million were earned through trade and 70 million with food store chains. This area has been successfully transformed into a stable source for secondary income by the family-owned enterprise.
Meyer's subsidiary enterprise Quick Service Logistics (QSL) is responsible for the supply of Burger King restaurants in Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Since May QSL provides Austria, Italy, Slovenia and Slovakia with a steady flow of Burgers & more.
The Friedrichsdorfer's are very innovative when it comes to alternative vehicles, although the market is not willing to pay more for environmentally friendly delivery. Meyer has six low-noise natural gas vehicles in operation. In the district of Cologne, Rewe is supplied by an electric-diesel hybrid truck.
